 NAN01000 was originally formulated to adhere to a strict set of requirements from the national historical preservation standards in England and to stop chewing gum and graffiti damage. In other words, protect buildings and streets with materials that will not deteriorate, erode, peel, or change the original appearance at all. For example, white spotting is apparent when chewing gum is removed and noticeable color changes in the stone occur when removing graffiti. The old surface has to be resurfaced and cleaned through expensive and time consuming methods. Usually, soda blasting, harsh cleaners, and hot water power washing and sometimes resurfacing are required to remove the stains and the results were very noticeable.
Chemists were asked to develop a product where a maintenance person could easily remove both substances without leaving a trace and not altering the original appearance of the stone or concrete material. The treatment is permanent so that if the surface is cleaned, the NANO1000 is still effective without having to reapply more of it. Contractors applied the first application to the train station building, on the granite paved taxi cab staging area, and on a large municipal water feature. It is still performing today over a year and a half later with complete effectiveness against leaking taxi oil, chewing gum, and graffiti. NANO1000 continues to be specified on new construction and restoration products in England.

 As a case study, in cooperation with PIB Homes, hypothesized that the NANO1000 clear treatment could be applied over a stained concrete residential slab and virtually protect the slab for the life of the construction project. This is in lieu of covering the stained concrete floor with protective sheets of plastic and tape. The painters, sheet rock texture sprayers, plumbers, trim carpenters, and various other contractors could not track in enough mud or make enough mess that could not be removed.
During the life of the project NANO1000 has repelled every glue, paint, chalk mark, pencil mark from altering the stain color and is easily cleaned using a wet mop. Our contractors did still use drop cloths but we witnessed a messy slab that was easily cleaned. We did not even experience the need to use any cleaners, merely water to wipe off paint, thin set, sheet rock mud and pencil marks. The other benefit for this builder, in addition to the time and expense of taping covering over the floor, is that the stained concrete will last a lifetime for the homeowner without stripping and resealing, provided it is maintained properly.

 Most white limestone patio owners scrub blisters into their hands every year using bleach to remove molds and algae, and if they own a power washer, cause annual stone and grout damage due to excessive high pressure power washing.
What actually happened here and is happening at every unprotected home is damage caused by water penetration. Water can easily penetrate any stone, brick, or masonry material and grow mold inside and below the surface of the rock. It makes the stone ugly and serves as a breeding ground for molds behind or underneath the stone. NANO1000 completely saturates and impregnates the stone below the surface, stopping water penetration. If any mold or algae is seen after the application it is growing out of surface dirt and can be easily removed with a garden hose.

 A beautiful new patio, consisting of a striking manufactured stone made by Stone Creek Pavers, was installed at The University of Texas Student Union Courtyard in Austin, Texas. The 6,700 sq. ft. space, open to the elements of weather and excessive traffic, would need a powerful component to keep out water and stain damage away from the stone and grout.
